RESEARCH PROJECT MUSIC OBJECTS IN POPULAR CULTURE
Since September 2018, the rock’n’popmuseum is researching “Music objects in popular culture: function and significance of instrument technology and audio media in times of social change”. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF).
For this project, the rock’n’popmuseum is closely collaborating with the Centre for Popular Culture and Music at the University of Freiburg (Zentrum für Populäre Kultur und Musik an der Universität Freiburg, formerly: Deutsches Volksliedarchiv) and the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar (Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt).
Over the next three years, the three institutions are planning to research how the way we listen to popular music has evolved since 1945: with new musical instruments and sound studio technology, recorded and collected on sound storage mediums and played back on various devices.
